Become A Mentor
Join Strive As A Mentor
Through powerful mentorships, students uncover new horizons, challenge limits, and see what’s possible.
At Strive Initiative, mentorship is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that consistent care, encouragement, and guidance from an invested adult can shift a young person’s trajectory. From one-on-one mentoring to creative media coaching to career inspiration, there are multiple ways to get involved, whichever fits your gifts, time, and passions.
Mentorship Opportunities You Can Join
1. CFG 1:1 & Small Group Mentoring
This is the core of Created for Greatness. Mentors and mentees meet weekly (or biweekly) to build trust, set goals, track progress, and navigate life’s challenges.
Commitment: 1 hour / week (or what you can give) over the school year
Activities: Conversations, goal setting, check-ins, enrichment outings
2. World Mentor (Career & Exposure Mentoring)
Support students by sharing your career path, hosting job-shadow sessions, giving career talks, or guiding a workshop in your field.
Commitment: 1–4 sessions per year (flexible)
Activities: Guest speaking, panel discussions, workplace tours, Q&A sessions
3. Multimedia Mentorship
If you have skills in media, art, video, music, or storytelling, mentor students in creative projects. Help them build portfolios, produce work, and find their voice.
Commitment: Varies (project-based)
Activities: Coaching media labs, editing support, creative encouragement
4. Community Conversations & Enrichment Mentorship
Mentors help design or lead group workshops (communication, civic engagement, identity, etc.), or co-facilitate dialogues between students, families, and the community.
Commitment: Occasional sessions or workshops
Activities: Facilitating discussions, hosting community panels, delivering enrichment lessons
Why Mentor
Mentoring guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter. Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships have powerful positive effects on young people in a variety of personal, academic, and professional situations. Ultimately, mentoring increases a young person’s personal growth, development, social, and economic opportunity.
When you step into the role of mentor, you:
- Help students feel seen, valued, and supported
- Share your wisdom, experience, and perspective
- Grow your own leadership, empathy, and communication
- Connect with purpose-driven community
- Leave a legacy of positive change in a young life
Each relationship strengthens not just one student, but our whole community.

How It Works
STRIVE mentors meet students throughout the school year and into the summer because consistency matters.
Our Created for Greatness (CFG) mentoring sessions take place on-site at Pottstown schools, and also in community locations coordinated through STRIVE and our partners.
Mentoring happens:
-
During and after school hours, depending on the program and mentor availability
-
At Pottstown Middle School and High School, and other local learning spaces
-
At community partner sites for enrichment activities, service projects, and creative workshops
-
Throughout the summer, when students participate in CFG, World Mentor, or Multimedia enrichment programs
Most mentors commit to meeting about one hour per week, though schedules are flexible to fit both mentor and student needs.
Every setting whether in a classroom, recording studio, or over a shared project is designed to help youth feel supported, inspired, and connected.
