Why Our Work Matters
Dropping out of high school doesn’t just affect one student, it affects our entire community.
When young people leave school before earning their diploma, it limits their career and income potential, reduces health and life satisfaction, and increases the likelihood of relying on public assistance or encountering the criminal justice system.
At STRIVE, and through our Created for Greatness mentoring program, we help Pottstown’s youth cultivate positive perceptions and provide diverse, aligned mentorship, helping Pottstown youth realize their academic and individual aspirations. Our goal is to ignite curiosity, build resilience, and inspire a lifelong love of learning.
The Local Picture: Pottstown’s Dropout Challenge
Since 2018, Pottstown School District has seen a significant and sustained reduction in its high school dropout rate. The rate declined from 7.7% in 2018 to approximately 3.1% by 2024, with the most substantial drop occurring by 2020 and remaining consistently lower thereafter. This improvement coincides with the launch of The STRIVE Initiative’s partnership with the district, suggesting a potential link between STRIVE’s student-centered support and increased student retention. Notably, 100% of STRIVE Initiative students graduate, and the dropout rate for STRIVE students is 0%, underscoring the program’s impact on student success.

At STRIVE, we know that impact doesn’t happen by chance, it happens through relationships. By surrounding students with caring mentors, positive examples, and structured opportunities for growth, we help them develop the confidence, character, and leadership skills needed to thrive.
We believe consistent support and authentic connection can rewrite what’s possible for young people. Through mentorship, empowerment, and shared experience, we’re not just shaping better students, we’re shaping confident, resilient leaders who will change the world around them.
The result is a ripple effect: students become leaders and mentors themselves, mentors become advocates, and entire communities grow stronger through the power of connection and belonging.
